SEPTEMBER ARTIST OF THE MONTH - Chuck Mackley
A profound love and respect for nature is the first thing that communicates itself from the luscious landscapes of Chuck Mackley. Chuck Mackley, High Country Art Association’s September Artist of the Month, has been painting the American Southwest and the Grand Canyon for over 50 years.
It was due to a diagnosis of Parkinson’s that he took early retirement, closing his construction company after 40 years and moving to Pinetop in 2017. Chuck got hooked on painting when his Aunt saw him looking at paintings on her wall and gave him his first set of oils when he was 12 years old. At age 17, Chuck studied with Truman Alston in Fort Worth, Texas.
Although he worked in acrylics for years, he currently works primarily in oil. He has over 80 thousand hours devoted to oil. His talent has found a wide audience. He is represented by galleries in Fort Worth and Lake Granbury, Texas and the Sheraton Resort in Prescott. He has twice done the Phippen Memorial in Prescott.
It is still the Grand Canyon that has captured his heart and art. He considers himself a Canyon painter and has devoted his career to rendering the Grand Canyon well.
Chuck Mackley is featured in the High Country Art Gallery as Artist of the Month for September. His many works will be on display from August 30th through September 26, 2019.
