High Country Art Association Member Shirley Bonifasi

Shirley Bonifasi's keen sense of color distinquishes her work.  She paints in oils, acrylics, watercolor and encaustics.

Shirley began painting in oils in 1973.  Her artistic endeavors were soon put on hold when she was widowed and took charge of a radio communications business.  She retired in 1989 and shortly thereafter became a summer resident of Show Low, Arizona.  After searching the White Mountains for three years, she found her dream home in Pinetop near Woodland Lake.

A workshop by Larry Weston in 1992 was her first introduction to watercolor.  Since then she has studied at the Scottsdale Artist’s School under Joyce Pike and Marilyn Simandle and taken several classes at Northland Pioneer College with Anna Lee Bunch and Leigh Sweetman.  In 2006 she discovered encaustic painting using melted wax.

The 1998 issue of Northern Flight Magazine featured three of her paintings.  She is past president of the Northeastern Arizona Fine Arts Association and recently became a life member.   She makes her home in Pinetop in the summer and Scottsdale in the winter.
