High Country Art Association Member Linda Larsen

Linda’s interest in the creative arts began in early childhood. She was the one who decorated the class room blackboards with holiday themes, helped plan and build sets for school plays and worked as layout editor on the yearbook staff. After majoring in art at The University of Arizona she went on to work as a visual merchandiser for a number of years before moving on to other careers. It wasn’t until she retired that she had time to reconnect with her creative side.

Originally landscape painting was Linda’s main focus, but it was another hobby, gardening, that caused her to change her passion to gourd art. The variety of shapes, sizes and textures of the gourds grown in her garden offered endless possibilities in creating three dimensional art. Linda’s work has always been influenced by the colors and patterns of the southwest and found that the organic medium of gourds lent themselves to that artistic expression. Prior to joining High Country Art, she participated in various art and crafts shows in Southern Arizona where her work was well received.

Linda is currently displaying her work at the High Country Art Gallery in Pinetop and may be contacted by email at eastofthemilkyway@hughes.net.
